What it means in practice

90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

How Malaysia counts your stay: The period of stay is granted on arrival by the immigration officer as a social visit pass and depends on nationality (e.g. 1 month for Russia and Belarus, 3 months for Germany; ASEAN citizens under 1 month).

Before you go

Official details are shown in English.

  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) — Within 3 days before arrival; Free on the official Immigration website. Mandatory for all foreign citizens since 1 January 2024. Exempt: citizens of Singapore; diplomatic and official passport holders; Malaysian permanent residents and long-term pass holders; Brunei GCI holders; Brunei–Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders; Thailand Border Pass holders; Indonesian cross-border pass (PLB) holders. Applies to land, sea and air entry. Official site

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds may be requested
  • MDAC submitted before arrival (unless exempt)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from a yellow fever risk country
  • Carrying cash or bearer instruments above USD 10,000 equivalent must be declared to customs

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. Extension of a social or business visit pass is not allowed unless approved by the Director General or Deputy Director General of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
  • Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Malaysia. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
