What it means in practice
30 days is about a month. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 30 November 2026, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
For a longer base you need an extension, if one exists, or a different visa from the start. Repeated back-to-back entries are at the officer's discretion.
Days in Turkey also add up over time: 90 days in any 180. Leaving and coming back does not reset that total, so earlier stays count. The stay calculator checks both limits when you add your earlier trips.
How Turkey counts your stay: Stay under a visa or visa exemption may not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period (rolling), with lower per-country limits where stated.
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- Türkiye e-Visa — Cost: Depends on nationality; Processing: About 3 minutes online; Validity: Depends on nationality; validity period is separate from the allowed stay; Stay: Per nationality, shown on the e-Visa; max 90 days in any 180. Apply on the official site
- Apply for the Türkiye e-Visa — Before departure; issued online in minutes; Depends on nationality (shown on evisa.gov.tr). Only for tourism or business trips. Apply only at the official site www.evisa.gov.tr. The e-Visa's validity period differs from the permitted stay; you may enter any time within the validity. Work and study visas are issued only by Turkish missions. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport must be valid at least 60 days beyond your permitted stay (e.g. 150 days for a 90-day stay); some ID-card and expired-passport exemptions apply
- The MFA advises a passport valid at least 6 months from arrival
- A visa or exemption does not guarantee entry
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 30 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. To stay longer than allowed, apply for a short-term residence permit at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. Residence permits are cancelled after more than 120 days in total abroad in a year.
- Keep a record of every entry and exit. The period limit adds up all your stays, and border officers can see them.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Turkey. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
Staying longer
Visa-free days are for visits. For months or years in Turkey, these are the long-stay routes in Bordr's guide (checked against official sources):
Official details are shown in English.
- Digital Nomad Visa (Digital Nomad Identification Certificate)
- Work permit — Up to 1 year for the first permit, tied to one employer; longer on extension
- Student residence permit — For the study period, then up to 1 year at a time
- Citizenship by investment (real estate)
Costs, income thresholds and how to apply are in the Bordr guide.
