What it means in practice

90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

Days in Nepal also add up over time: 150 days per calendar year. Leaving and coming back does not reset that total, so earlier stays count. The stay calculator checks both limits when you add your earlier trips.

How Nepal counts your stay: Stay is limited by the visa purchased (15, 30 or 90 days). A tourist may stay no more than 150 days in total in a calendar year (1 January – 31 December).

Before you go

Official details are shown in English.

  • Tourist visa on arrival — Cost: USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, USD 125 for 90 days (multiple entry); Processing: Issued on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and other designated entry points; Validity: 15, 30 or 90 days, multiple entry; Stay: Up to 150 days per calendar year with extensions. Apply on the official site
  • Online tourist visa / arrival form (optional) — Within 15 days before arrival (the barcode receipt is valid for 15 days); Free to submit; the visa fee is paid on arrival. Fill in the form on the Department of Immigration portal and print or save the barcode receipt. On arrival, pay the fee at the bank or fee counter, then go to the immigration desk. Official site
  • Cash for the visa fee — Before departure; USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days), USD 125 (90 days). Bring clean banknotes: notes that are torn, folded, stained, faded or marked are refused. Fees are not refunded. Official site

  • Passport valid at least 6 months
  • Visa fee in cash, in clean banknotes
  • Barcode receipt of the online form, if you filled it in in advance

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. Extend at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or the Pokhara immigration office: USD 45 for the minimum 15 days, plus USD 3 per extra day. Overstaying costs USD 5 per day in fines.
  • Keep a record of every entry and exit. The period limit adds up all your stays, and border officers can see them.
  • What overstaying costs. Overstaying costs USD 5 per day in fines.
