What it means in practice
30 days is about a month. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 30 November 2026, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
For a longer base you need an extension, if one exists, or a different visa from the start. Repeated back-to-back entries are at the officer's discretion.
How Thailand counts your stay: The permitted stay is counted from the day of entry and is shown on the entry stamp. Travellers who entered before 15 September 2026 keep the period stamped at entry (e.g. 60 days).
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) — Within 3 days before arrival (the arrival day counts); Free on the official website. Mandatory for all non-Thai nationals entering by air, land or sea, including children. One TDAC per entry; up to 10 travellers can be filed together. Not needed if you transit without passing immigration, or enter with a Border Pass. Use only tdac.immigration.go.th: the Immigration Bureau warns that fake sites charge fees and the data does not reach immigration. The THIM mobile app (pilot) is optional and does not replace TDAC. At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months (visa-exempt and tourist visa travellers); at least 30 days for visa on arrival
- Return or onward ticket
- Funds of at least 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family (equivalent); may be checked
- TDAC submitted before arrival
- The 30-day and 15-day visa exemptions are for tourism only; other purposes need the relevant visa
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 30 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. Apply in person at a local immigration office before your stay expires (form TM.7). Fee 1,900 THB, non-refundable; approval is at the officer's discretion.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Thailand. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
Staying longer

- Non-Immigrant O-A (Long Stay) — 1 year, extendable yearly in Thailand
- Non-Immigrant O-X (10-year long stay) — 10 years in total, 5 years per stay permission
- Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa — 10 years (5 + 5), multiple entry
