What it means in practice
90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
How Argentina counts your stay: Up to 3 months (90 days) from entry as a tourist.
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- Travel medical insurance (optional) — Before departure, covering the whole stay; Depends on insurer. Decree 366/2025 requires foreigners seeking admission to declare that they have health insurance. Argentine embassies state that this sworn declaration is not yet being requested at the border, as implementing rules are pending, and recommend having medical or travel insurance. Public hospitals treat non-resident foreigners only with insurance or prepayment, except in emergencies. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport valid for the whole planned stay
- Cash or traveller's cheques worth more than USD 10,000 must be declared
- Declare goods that may be prohibited or subject to duty; customs rules are strict
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. Apply in person at the DNM (Buenos Aires, building 3, 8:00–13:00) or any migration delegation, no later than 10 days before your stay expires. Fee: 20 UMSM = ARS 20,000 (10 UMSM = ARS 10,000 for MERCOSUR and associated countries); 50% surcharge if you come forward within 30 days after the deadline. An expired stay cannot be extended — you then need an exit permit (habilitación de salida): ARS 40,000 (ARS 20,000 for MERCOSUR), valid 10 days.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Argentina. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
