What it means in practice
90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
How Timor-Leste counts your stay: Visa on arrival: 30 days from entry. Schengen/EU citizens: 90 days in any 180. ASEAN visa-free: 30 days.

At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from entry, with at least 2 blank pages
- QR code or PDF of the traveller declaration
- Biometric data may be collected; enter only through an official checkpoint
- Cash or travellers' cheques of US$20,000 or more need prior authorisation from the Central Bank
- Overland to Oecussi (Wini checkpoint) needs a separate visa, available on arrival there
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. A tourist visa can be extended once for 30 days in person at Migration Service headquarters in Dili. Fee US$40, processing up to 15 days. Apply more than 15 days before expiry so the clock pauses while it is processed.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Timor-Leste. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
