What it means in practice
90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
How Chile counts your stay: Up to 90 days from entry under the Permanencia Transitoria permit.
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- SAG sworn declaration (agricultural products) — Before or on arrival; Free. Declare any plants, animals, products of plant or animal origin (including handicrafts), agricultural chemicals or biological products, veterinary medicines and animal feed, regardless of quantity or packaging. The declaration can be made digitally (at some border posts) or on paper. Failing to declare risk products leads to sanctions and fines. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport valid beyond your planned departure date
- Keep the Tarjeta Única Migratoria (TUM) issued on entry: you need it to extend your stay and on departure
- SAG inspects luggage; declare all plant and animal products
- Proof of sufficient funds may be requested
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. Once only, for up to 90 more days, online on the SERMIG portal (tramites.serviciomigraciones.cl, with ClaveÚnica or a portal account), before the date on your TUM expires. Fee USD 100 (paid in Chilean pesos); children and adolescents are exempt. You need a passport scan, the TUM, any visa held, proof of means of subsistence and a statement of reasons.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Chile. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
