Move to Paraguay

Quiet, green and unhurried — South America's under-the-radar heartland

Paraguay has no digital nomad visa, but its temporary residence is relatively easy to get and is the usual route for remote workers; it later leads to permanent residence. Demand is high: the immigration office granted 29,765 residencies in the first half of 2026 (23,833 of them temporary).

What life is like

Programme details are shown in English.

Why people move

Life is relaxed and community-minded, with tereré shared among friends and lush subtropical scenery. Most expats settle in Asunción's leafy districts, while Encarnación has river beaches and a growing summer scene.

Day to day

Long-distance buses are the main way between cities; a car helps a lot. Private hospitals in Asunción are adequate, rural care is basic. Cards work in larger shops, cash elsewhere. Spanish and Guarani are both spoken, English rarely.

Trade-offs

Summers are intensely hot and humid. Infrastructure and public services are limited, and the small international community can feel isolating at first.

Before you move: visa-free entry

Most people arrive as visitors first, then apply from inside the country or come back with the right visa. How long you can stay as a visitor depends on your passport:
