What life is like
Programme details are shown in English.
Why people move
Barbados mixes British traditions with Caribbean warmth: Sunday lunches, fish fries and lively Friday nights. The calm west coast suits swimming, the wild east coast suits surfers, and most expats live along the west and south coasts.
Day to day
Local buses and shared vans cover the island, though many rent a car. Healthcare is adequate for routine needs, with serious cases often sent abroad. Cards work in most places, internet is reliable, and English is the official language.
Trade-offs
Island life gets small fast, and imported goods make everyday shopping costly. Hurricane season brings storms, and things move on island time, which can frustrate when getting anything done.
Before you move: visa-free entry
Most people arrive as visitors first, then apply from inside the country or come back with the right visa. How long you can stay as a visitor depends on your passport:
