What it means in practice
90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
How Kenya counts your stay: eTA holders stay for the period granted at entry. Exempt nationals: up to 180 days (East African Community), 90 or 60 days depending on the country.

- Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) — At least 2 weeks before travel; you may only travel once it is approved; USD 30 (single entry); express processing +USD 100; non-refundable. Apply only on etakenya.go.ke or in the official "Kenya Travel Authorisation" app. Each traveller, including children, needs their own eTA (groups can apply together). You need a passport valid at least 6 months with one blank page, a selfie or passport photo, contact details, itinerary and accommodation booking. Normal processing is about 3 working days. Show the approved eTA at departure and on arrival. Mistakes cannot be fixed after submitting: a new application with a new fee is needed. Official site
- Yellow fever certificate (if arriving from an endemic country) (optional) — Get vaccinated at least 10 days before travel; Depends on the clinic. Travellers arriving from yellow fever endemic countries must carry an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). Vaccination is also available at selected points of entry in Kenya. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.

- Approved eTA (unless exempt), shown at departure and on arrival
- Yellow fever certificate if arriving from an endemic country

How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extensions. Our data has no extension route for Kenya; plan to leave on time or arrange a different visa in advance.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Kenya. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
Good to know
Official details are shown in English.
- East Africa Tourist Visa (USD 100, 90 days, multiple entries between Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda): Kenya's eTA portal lists an East African Tourist eTA as coming soon, so for now apply through Rwanda (irembo.gov.rw) or Uganda (visas.immigration.go.ug) and make the issuing country your first point of entry.
- A transit eTA (USD 20) is needed only if you leave the airport; passengers who stay airside are exempt.
- Diplomats also complete an eTA but do not pay the standard fee.
