No admission

No admission

Our data lists Algeria as not admitting holders of this passport. A visa is needed in advance from an Algerian consulate; a tourist visa on arrival exists only for organised trips to the far south booked through an approved Algerian agency. Areas within 30 km of the borders with Libya, Mauritania, Mali and Niger are advised against.

What it means in practice

How Algeria counts your stay: As stated on the visa.

Before you go

Official details are shown in English.

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate — Before departure, if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk; Cost of the vaccination at a certified centre. Required for travellers aged 9 months and over arriving from a country with yellow fever risk, including after a transit of more than 12 hours in such a country. Not needed when arriving directly from a country without risk.

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  • Visa in the passport, or the agency's QR-code authorisation for a Grand Sud visa on arrival
  • Declare foreign cash on entry and keep the stamped declaration: you need it to take unused currency out again

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Extend before you run out. Apply at the local wilaya (provincial administration) before the visa expires.
  • Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Algeria. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
