What it means in practice

90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

How Uganda counts your stay: Tourist visa: up to 3 months, single entry. East Africa Tourist Visa: 90 days across Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, not extendable.

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Visa approval letter and payment receipts for biometric capture
  • Visas are for the stated purpose only; tourist visas do not allow work

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. A tourist visa can be extended by 60 days in two intervals, online or at the immigration headquarters or a regional immigration office.
  • Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Uganda. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.

Good to know

Official details are shown in English.

  • East Africa Tourist Visa: USD 100, valid 90 days, can be used multiple times for tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda only. Apply on visas.immigration.go.ug if Uganda is your first country of entry: the issuing country must be your first point of entry. It is not extendable and cannot be renewed after you leave the three countries.
  • The East Africa Tourist Visa application page still lists a yellow fever certificate among its documents; keep a copy ready if you have one. Kenya and Rwanda require the certificate from travellers arriving from yellow fever endemic countries, so check before continuing there from Uganda.
  • Citizens of East African Community states and several other, mostly African and Caribbean, countries are visa-exempt.
