What it means in practice

30 days is about a month. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 30 November 2026, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

For a longer base you need an extension, if one exists, or a different visa from the start. Repeated back-to-back entries are at the officer's discretion.

How Belize counts your stay: Up to 30 days from entry unless the officer grants less. Overstaying without an extension can mean a fine, detention or deportation. Work, paid or unpaid, is not allowed on a visitor permit.

Before you go

Official details are shown in English.

  • iDeclare — digital immigration and customs form — Before arrival and again before departure; Free. Belize's embarkation/disembarkation form, run by Immigration, Customs and E-Governance. Filling it in online saves time at the border. Official site

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond your planned departure
  • Return or onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds may be requested
  • iDeclare form completed
  • Leaving by land: departure processing fee BZ$30 + border development fee BZ$2.50 + PACT conservation fee BZ$7.50 (BZ$40 total, about USD 20); air departure taxes are normally in the ticket

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 30 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. Apply in person at an immigration office before your permit expires: each extension adds 30 days, fee BZ$200 for all nationals. Visa-required nationals must hold a visa before an extension is issued.
  • What overstaying costs. Overstaying without an extension can mean a fine, detention or deportation.
