What it means in practice
The officer at the border decides how long you may stay in Belize; the date in your passport stamp is the one that counts. Ask for the days you need and carry proof of onward travel.
How Belize counts your stay: Up to 30 days from entry unless the officer grants less. Overstaying without an extension can mean a fine, detention or deportation. Work, paid or unpaid, is not allowed on a visitor permit.

How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Extend before you run out. Apply in person at an immigration office before your permit expires: each extension adds 30 days, fee BZ$200 for all nationals. Visa-required nationals must hold a visa before an extension is issued.
