What it means in practice
60 days is about two months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 30 December 2026, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
How Papua New Guinea counts your stay: Stay is limited to the period granted on your visa.
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- Tourist visa on arrival — Processing: At Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby. Apply on the official site
- PNG Digital Arrival Card (PNGDAC) — Within 72 hours before arrival; Free. Mandatory for all travellers since 1 October 2025. Fill it in only on the official ICSA site. Official site
- Tourist visa online (ICSA) — Before travel; Shown on the ICSA portal. Apply through the Immigration & Citizenship Services Authority website (Online Services). Alternatively apply at a PNG embassy or high commission; a tourist visa on arrival is also issued at Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby, for eligible travellers. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from arrival
- Return or onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds may be requested
- Yellow fever certificate if arriving from or transiting a country with yellow fever risk
- Strict quarantine: many fruits, vegetables and animal products are banned; declare anything that may be prohibited or dutiable
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 60 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. Contact ICSA before your visa expires.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Papua New Guinea. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
Good to know
Official details are shown in English.
- The UK advises against all but essential travel to Hela and Southern Highlands provinces and Enga province (except Wabag District); Canada advises avoiding non-essential travel to the whole country because of crime and civil unrest.
