What it means in practice
The officer at the border decides how long you may stay in Kazakhstan; the date in your passport stamp is the one that counts. Ask for the days you need and carry proof of onward travel.
Days in Kazakhstan also add up over time: 90 days in any 180. Leaving and coming back does not reset that total, so earlier stays count. The stay calculator checks both limits when you add your earlier trips.
How Kazakhstan counts your stay: Visa-free visitors (30-day group) may stay up to 30 calendar days from crossing the border and 90 days in total within any 180 days. Visa runs no longer restart the 30 days.
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Valid passport; citizens of Russia and Belarus may also use national ID documents under EAEU rules
- Track your days: 30 per entry and 90 in 180 for most visa-free nationals
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Extend before you run out. Visa-free stays are not extended as a tourist; for a longer stay obtain the appropriate visa or a residence permit via the migration service.
- Keep a record of every entry and exit. The period limit adds up all your stays, and border officers can see them.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Kazakhstan. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
