What it means in practice
90 days is about three months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 January 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.
Days in Montenegro also add up over time: 90 days in any 180. Leaving and coming back does not reset that total, so earlier stays count. The stay calculator checks both limits when you add your earlier trips.
How Montenegro counts your stay: Visa-free stays depend on nationality (90 days in any 180 for most Western passports, 30 days for some). On another country's visa or residence permit: up to 30 days.

How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Plan to leave a day or two early. With 90 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
- Extend before you run out. For longer stays apply for temporary residence at the Ministry of Interior before your permitted stay ends.
- Keep a record of every entry and exit. The period limit adds up all your stays, and border officers can see them.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Montenegro. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
