Mongolia visa for British citizens

Visa-free

30 days visa-free

British citizens can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 30 days. Many travellers enter Mongolia visa-free under bilateral agreements or the 2026 tourist exemption for 34 countries (30 days, valid until the end of 2026); others apply for an e-Visa. Foreigners staying longer than 30 days must register with the Immigration Agency within 7 days of arrival.

What it means in practice

30 days is about a month. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 30 November 2026, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

For a longer base you need an extension, if one exists, or a different visa from the start. Repeated back-to-back entries are at the officer's discretion.

How Mongolia counts your stay: Your host, organisation or accommodation must register you online within 48 hours of arrival. If you stay longer than 30 days, register with the Immigration Agency of Mongolia within 7 days of arrival.

For United Kingdom passports: Tourist visa exemption for 30 days, valid until the end of 2026.

  • Passport valid at least 6 months
  • Return or onward ticket (especially under the tourist exemption)
  • Copy of the e-Visa, if applicable

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 30 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. e-Visas cannot be extended. Other visa extensions and residence permits are handled by the Immigration Agency of Mongolia (immigration.gov.mn) before your permitted stay ends.
  • Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Mongolia. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
