What it means in practice

180 days is about six months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 April 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

That is long enough to rent a place for a season, but a visitor stay is not residence: it does not give you the right to work for a local employer.

How Barbados counts your stay: The period granted is stamped on arrival and may be shorter than the maximum for your nationality; the legal maximum for a visitor is 6 months.

Before you go

Official details are shown in English.

  • Barbados Online Immigration and Customs Form (ED card) — Within 72 hours before travel; submit at least 24 hours before your flight; Free on the official website. Required for all incoming passengers (not for departure). You need flight details, passports and an e-mail address. A separate immigration form is filed for the spouse and each child under 18, but one joint customs form covers the family. Two receipts (immigration and customs) arrive by e-mail; keep them on your phone or printed. Official site

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid for the whole stay
  • Return ticket to your country of residence
  • Evidence that you can support yourself during the stay
  • Immigration and customs form receipts
  • Yellow fever certificate if over 1 year old and arriving from an infected area

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 180 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. Apply to the Barbados Immigration Department (Careenage House, Wharf Road, Bridgetown, or the office at Grantley Adams airport) before the stamped period ends.
  • Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Barbados. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
