What it means in practice
Apply well before the trip: visa processing for Cyprus depends on the embassy or consulate handling your application. The length of stay is the one printed on your visa.
How Cyprus counts your stay: Up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Republic of Cyprus, counted separately from the Schengen area.
Before you go
Official details are shown in English.
- Cyprus short-stay visa (category C) — Cost: €90 adults, €45 children 6–12, free under 6; Stay: Up to 90 days in any 180. Apply on the official site
- Cypriot visa or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa — No earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 calendar days before the trip; €90 adults, €45 children aged 6–12, free under 6; reduced €35 for some nationalities; non-refundable. If you already hold a valid double- or multiple-entry Schengen (category C) visa, you do not need a Cypriot visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180 (not applicable to Turkish and Azerbaijani citizens). Otherwise apply at a Cypriot embassy or consulate; fees may be charged in local currency. Official site
At the border
Official details are shown in English.
- Valid passport (EU/EEA/Swiss citizens may use a national ID card)
- Non-EU travellers get an entry stamp; Cyprus does not register visitors in EES
- Border authorities may refuse entry even to visa holders
How to avoid overstaying
- Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
- Extend before you run out. For longer stays apply to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for the appropriate permit before your permitted stay ends.
- Keep a record of every entry and exit. The period limit adds up all your stays, and border officers can see them.
- Penalties. Our data does not list the overstay penalty for Cyprus. Ask the immigration authority before you risk it: fines, deportation and entry bans are common elsewhere.
Good to know
Official details are shown in English.
- Enter the Republic of Cyprus only through its official ports and airports (Larnaca, Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca port). The Republic considers arrival via Ercan airport or ports in the north an illegal entry.
