What it means in practice

180 days is about six months. If you arrive on 1 November 2026, your last legal day is 29 April 2027, because the arrival day is day one. Use the stay calculator for your own dates.

That is long enough to rent a place for a season, but a visitor stay is not residence: it does not give you the right to work for a local employer.

How Dominica counts your stay: The period granted is set by the immigration officer on arrival within your nationality's limit. Overstaying or working without a work permit is illegal.

Before you go

  • Dominica Online Immigration and Customs Declaration (ED) card — No more than 3 days before travel; Free on the official website. You need your flight details and passport. After submitting you get a confirmation with a QR code: save it on your phone or print it and show it with your passport to immigration and customs. The government says edcard.dominica.gov.dm is the only official platform and warns against unofficial sites. Official site

At the border

Official details are shown in English.

  • Passport valid for your whole stay (UK advice: 6 months after arrival); lost or stolen passports are refused
  • Return or onward ticket
  • QR code from the online ED card
  • Declare cash or travellers' cheques of EC$10,000 or more; customs rules are strict
  • Yellow fever certificate if arriving from or transiting a country with yellow fever risk

How to avoid overstaying

  • Go by your stamp or visa. The date the officer gives you is the one that counts, even if it is shorter than the maximum.
  • Plan to leave a day or two early. With 180 days, book your exit before the last legal day so a cancelled flight doesn't push you over.
  • Extend before you run out. Arrange and pay for an extension with the Immigration Division before your permitted stay ends.
  • What overstaying costs. Overstaying or working without a work permit is illegal.

Good to know
