What life is like
Programme details are shown in English.
Why people move
Almost every public service works online, which makes setting up life refreshingly simple. Tallinn mixes a medieval old town with a busy tech scene, Tartu is a calm university city, and forests, bogs and islands are never far away.
Day to day
Buses and trains link the main towns, and Tallinn has free public transport for registered residents. Healthcare is public and insurance-based. Banking is fully digital, internet is excellent, and English is common among younger people.
Trade-offs
Winters are long and very dark. The country is small, so the social and cultural scene can feel limited. Estonians are reserved, and making local friends takes patience.
Before you move: visa-free entry
Most people arrive as visitors first, then apply from inside the country or come back with the right visa. How long you can stay as a visitor depends on your passport:
