What life is like
Programme details are shown in English.
Why people move
Ljubljana is a compact, car-free-centred capital with a riverside café culture. Lake Bled, the Julian Alps and the Adriatic coast are all within easy reach, and the country is quiet, safe and outdoorsy.
Day to day
Buses connect towns well; trains are slower. Public healthcare is good, with supplementary insurance commonly used. Cards are accepted widely, internet is reliable. Slovene is the official language, and English is spoken by most younger people.
Trade-offs
The country is small and life can feel very quiet. Rentals in Ljubljana are limited, and Slovene is a difficult language that matters for integration.
Before you move: visa-free entry
Most people arrive as visitors first, then apply from inside the country or come back with the right visa. How long you can stay as a visitor depends on your passport:
